Vocabulary
Reading aloud books that have content specific and interesting vocabulary is a powerful way to build vocabulary experiences.

hogwood:

Hogwood Steps Out by Howard Mansfield and Barry Moser (2008) is a quality model for vocabulary related to farming, pigs, and gardens.

VOCABULARY:
pigpen, inviting, sensitive, gate, feeders, squishy, soil, plowed, pounds, runt, litter, earthy, vintage, throbbing, grunt, trench, impressed, compliment, pointers, wallow, rambling, wood shavings

notabox:

Not A Box by Antoinette Portis is a great model, for that some times less celebrated trait of PRESENTATION. The book cover and end pages are cardboard and the NET WT. 11.5 OZ. and THIS SIDE UP arrows on the back create understanding and activate prior knowledge before the pages are even opened.
